Bristol Chamber Offers Support for Home Based and Direct Sell Businesses

Bristol Chamber Offers Support for Home Based and Direct Sell Businesses
Rebecca White – Marketing & Communications Director, Central CT Chambers of Commerce

The Bristol Chamber of Commerce strives to support businesses of all sizes and as part of this effort created a special membership level for home based and direct sell businesses. These entrepreneurs work long hours out of their home and on the road to promote their vision and share their product with others without a lot of support.

Recognizing this often overlooked segment of the business community, the Chamber sought out a way to help these individuals by creating a program that would allow them to join the Chamber at an affordable rate, participate in vendor-focused events, and network with others working from home and in direct sell businesses. This not only helps them build a sense of community, but also offers opportunities to grow their businesses that otherwise would not exist. A few of the members who have benefitted from this program are highlighted below.

Greyheart Designs

Donna Baehr always loved to sew and quilt, and one day decided to branch out and make a purse for herself.  Her mother loved it so much that she made her one as a gift for Mother’s day.  They both received so many compliments on them that Donna knew there was a business there.  She also has a love for greyhounds and always looked for ways to support the adoption group where her dogs came from.  Out of this came the idea to combine her love of sewing and greyhounds into a business where a portion of the sales were donated to various greyhound and animal adoption groups.  After tossing the idea around with some friends and receiving a lot of encouragement, Donna started Greyheart Designs in November 2016 as a part-time home based business making cosmetic bags, totes and purses.

Looking to continue to grow her new company, Donna joined the Bristol Chamber of Commerce as a way for to network and gain knowledge about how to run a company from other local business owners.  She also values the many workshops and educational opportunities the Chamber offers so that she will have the tools needed to grow her business into a full time venture.

Traveling Vineyard and Young Living Essential Oils

Two years ago, Lisa Cidela decided to join the Wine Family with Traveling Vineyard and today she is a Team Leader with the company. She runs in-home Wine Tasting events and helps people discover exclusive wines from around the world that cannot be purchased anywhere else. Her motto is to “Change your Life, One Sip at a Time” which is a value she is happy to pass onto her customers. During an in-home wine tasting, Lisa brings five complimentary bottles of wine consisting of two red, two white, and one sweet, which she pairs with different foods so the guests can truly experience how the taste of wine compliments certain foods.

Lisa enjoyed this business so much that she was always on the lookout for another business to start. When she started using Young Living Essential Oils just about a year ago and found a lot of benefits in using them, she knew she had found her new business as she just had to start sharing the benefits and uses of the oils with others.

Most have heard talk about using essential oils and the benefits they offer but are confused and don’t know exactly what they are. Do you want to find out how you use them? What they are good for? How they can benefit you and your family? Join Lisa for one of her upcoming Free Essential Oils classes to learn more.
