Committees

The driving force behind the Central Connecticut Chambers of Commerce’s success is our committees. They spearhead the Chambers’ programs, coordinate many of the Chambers’ activities, organize volunteer efforts, sponsor seminars and workshops, and promote positive interaction among members.

Beautification Committee

The Beautification Committee works tirelessly to help keep Bristol and the surrounding towns beautiful. The Committee helps to run the annual Pequabuck River Duck Race, whose proceeds are split between the Chamber and the Forestville Village Association to be used for beautification efforts. Each June the Beautification Committee presents awards to Bristol residents and businesses that have made an effort to beautify their property through landscaping, maintenance, and physical improvements. These awards, which are judged by the Men’s Bristol Garden Club, are given out at the State of the City & Town Breakfast Meeting & Chamber Beautification Awards Ceremony.

In 2012, the Committee spearheaded the Ducks on Parade event, where local businesses sponsored decorative ducks that were painted by local artists and then displayed around Bristol, Farmington, and Plymouth. A Duck Hunt enticed community members to seek out all of the ducks for a chance at some great prizes. This event not only helped to beautify the community, but also raise awareness about local businesses and organizations.

Some other Beautification Committee projects are purchasing and installing holiday lights around town, sponsoring welcome to Bristol signs, creating a shopping cart pick up program and an adopt a street program.

Economic Development Committee

The Chamber helps to support and promote the relocation to, and expansion of many businesses in the Central Connecticut area. Despite a difficult economic outlook, we continue to add new businesses and help existing businesses grow.

Attracting new business to the region and ensuring that businesses already here want to stay are two important ways that the Chamber of Commerce helps central Connecticut thrive. This is part of the important work of the Economic Development Committee.

Legislative Action Committee

Representing the interests of business to the government is a crucial function of the Chamber. The Legislative Action Committee provides Chamber members with access to legislators and policymakers in order to improve business conditions in the area and the state of Connecticut.

The Committee works to support legislation that will provide manufacturers with skilled workers through education programs and training; provide advocacy for the Central Connecticut Revolving Loan Fund; and reduce the cost of doing business in Connecticut by lowering state taxes.

Chamber Events Committee

The numerous events put on by the Chamber would not be possible without the committee member volunteers who help Chamber staff to plan and carryout these gatherings. Some of the Chamber events backed by committees are the Home & Business Expo, the Annual Dinners for each chamber, the Pequabuck River Duck Race, the Annual Golf Tournaments, and the Children’s Holiday Festival. Joining one of these committees is a great way to stay involved with the Chamber while helping to shape our important events.

Industrial/Manufacturing Committee

Manufacturing has been the backbone of Central Connecticut's economy for over 200 years. The Chambers' Industrial / Manufacturing Committee's focus is on improving the business climate for area manufacturers.

We continue to increase elected officials' knowledge of manufacturing's needs and problems and help provide a pool of good, skilled people willing to work in industry by providing tours of local industries with elected officials and field trips to area manufacturers to exhibit available employment opportunities for junior high and high school students.
